The 2009 Audi Q5 is the all-new, mid-size luxury crossover from Audi. It fuses the relationship between a sports sedan with highly efficient performance and state-of-the-art technology. Audi took the logical route when entering the compact, premium SUV segment by creating a sleek, simple and sporty vehicle—the Q5. In essence, Audi crafted an original crossover to fit below the Q7 model in their line-up.

The Q5 has a clean edge over its segment competitors—the BMW X3, Benz GLK, Infiniti Ex35, Land Rover LR2, Lexus RX 350, and the Volvo XC60—especially due to its innovative design and having the longest wheelbase at 110.6 inches, amongst other things. When it comes to pricing, the Q5 is closely matched to its rivals.

The Audi Q5 is a multi-talented vehicle for sport, leisure-time and family activities making it a true all-around vehicle for everyday life. In the United States, this luxury crossover vehicle will initially be available with Audi's strong and efficient, 3.2-liter (FSI) direct-injection V-6 engine, driving through a six-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. It has 265-horesepower and 243 lb-ft of torque allowing the FSI V-6 to provide enough power to propel the Q5 to 60 mph in 6.8 seconds. With the Q5 using an FSI V-6, more power, better fuel economy and lower emissions provide advantageous results.

This dynamic vehicle is also featuring Quattro all-wheel-drive and agile running gear. These features make the Audi Q5 suitable for all purposes and driving surfaces to give it superior on- and off-road driving capabilities. It is a vehicle that is capable of towing up to 2.0 tons and delivers excellent performance in rough terrain as well. Luxury meets superior driving capabilities to provide consumers with a truly innovative crossover for everyday life.
Audi is offering three different options for the external trim of the Q5 - black (standard), contrasting color or full paint finish for the color of the vehicle. In addition, two body packages are available. These include the S line exterior package which communicates a distinctly sporty look to this performance SUV and, the alternative, off-road style package with underbody protection in the front and back and 19-inch wheels, which gives a truly robust style.

The Q5 is built off the same architecture as the new A4 sedans and wagons and the A5 coupes, keeping true to the structural strength of all Audi vehicles. There is extensive use of high-strength steel in the Q5’s body structure. Subtle fender flares hint at the A5 from some angles, and the roofline is one of the lowest in the compact, premium SUV segment. One is clearly able to identify this SUV as a relative of the Audi Q7 after looking at the rear of the Q5 and seeing the wraparound tailgate, which is made from aluminum just like the hood to reduce weight. Even more so, the new Q5 combines Audi's trademark single frame grille along with clean surfaces to provide a crossover that is representative of the Audi brand.

In keeping with the usual Audi features, the Q5 will be available with the latest-generation (third version) of the MMI computer interface, power tailgate, keyless entry, Bluetooth hands-free phone, a Bang & Olufsen 505-watt 14-speaker sound system, and a heated and cooled cup holder. In addition, an innovative roof feature, where roof rack sensors detect when the roof is being used to carry a load, will be available in order to aid the stability control system to automatically adjust operating parameters. Lastly, although the Q5 is strictly a two-row vehicle, the second row folds flat to provide just over 55 cubic ft of load space.
